Simon Peter answered Jesus: You are the Messiah, the son of the living God!
Who is Jesus? There is no institution or authority on earth that can say it is valid for all people. God alone can give the answer, and we find this answer in the Bible, not only in the New Testament, but also in the prophecies of the Old Testament.
But every man must discover what and who Jesus is to him personally. An atheist has other answers than a believer, the Muslim another than the Hindu…. Everyone has his own ideas. And we? Who is Jesus? What are our ideas about him?
This question is extremely important, because Jesus is the content and the goal, the center of faith.
The Bible describes many facets of Jesus. He is the good shepherd. He is the light of the world. He is faith, hope, and love. He is the prophet. He is Messiah, Savior, Redeemer, Savior, Friend, Helper, Comforter, Son of God, Lord, King, and many others. Each of these titles is a particular image or part of the essence of Jesus.
We encounter Jesus very differently when we see Him only as Savior. We see Him quite differently when He is our King and Lord. If HE is the saviour and helper, we see Him again differently…. What are your thoughts, your image of Jesus?
HE is a living person, and each person has many gifts and many different apparitions. Men are very different when it comes to football, just like when they talk about cars. Women behave very differently towards their children as they behave towards their boss. – Who is Jesus?
My image of Jesus determines how I behave towards Him and how I pray and what I believe in Him. He is a living person whom we should not see unilaterally. He is the Savior from sins, but He is also the great King and Lord, here and now. Let us study His image in the Gospels. New facets of His being are always seen. It never ends, HE is simply too big to describe Him comprehensively in a few words.
The best thing is when you know a person personally and are intimate friends. Then the questioning stops. Jesus is waiting for us, He wants to reveal Himself to us.
Yes Jesus, when I know You, so many questions are answered! Then peace will return to my heart. You are my King, my Lord, my Redeemer and Saviour! How good that You found me!!
