Atonement – 2018.04.04

Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar ….
Matthew 5:23

… and you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift. (Verse 23).
God likes to receive our gifts of love when they are given with a pure heart and in adoration. He then answers with blessings. However, if we donate for our own sake only to receive His blessing for our plans we better should leave it.
When we ask for forgiveness for a mistake and mean it seriously He will accept it. Ortherwise our apology remains unheard.
How can you atone for faults?  You can not wipe them out, turn back the time. The evil deed has been done, the wicked word has hurt. You cannot draw it back. How can you undo it?
Jesus likes to forgive when we ask for it. But He expects us to do the same. If we do not forgive our neighbour He cannot forgive us. And that is not enough. We should put things right again, repair the damage. That could be quite against our pride, but it has to be done. Otherwise guilt sits like a splinter in the flesh which becomes inflamed  and suppuration arises. It may be painful to pull the splinter out, But after that everything is much better.
As Jesus`witness it is very bad for us if people have reasons to blame us for lies and other injustice. We should apologize immediately and repair the damage. Otherwise God will never give you peace. One time I was not prepared to repair a damage, wanted to hide this harm instead. But God did not give me rest, took away His blessing and the suppuration got worse… really bad times! If we want peace with God, we have to repair the damage done by us. Then His blessing will come back. Relieved we can breathe again and can go on happily.

Thank You, Jesus! Your recipes for a happy life are so easy but sometimes very hard to follow when everything in me balks against it. But I will go my way with You. Thank You that You help me when I have to apologize to other and put things right again. Thank you, You help me to overcome my pride.
